Manchester United will reportedly 'open talks' with Felix Nmecha's agent in the near future, ahead of a summer move to Old Trafford. United are expected to prioritise a new central midfielder in the summer after considering an overhaul for some time.
Brighton's Carlos Baleba was the subject of late interest at the end of last summer, with Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton both heavily linked.
United splashed over £200million on attackers pre-season and at the end of the current campaign, The Manchester Evening News understands that they will prioritise a new midfielder and left winger when the transfer window reopens.
Nmecha, who was previously on Manchester City's books, has emerged as another option in recent months after impressing at Borussia Dortmund. The 25-year-old can play as a No.6 and No.8, a position United will look to strengthen to partner Kobbie Mainoo in midfield.
Casemiro, 33, is already confirmed to leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires. The Brazilian is a regular starter under Michael Carrick, with his performances in 2026 prompting some to call for him to sign an extension.

Nmecha is viewed as a cheaper alternative to Anderson, Wharton and Baleba - who are all valued around £100m+. In January, reports suggested Dortmund would demand at least €60m (£52m).
According to German outlet Fussball Daten, Nmecha has been identified as a leading candidate to replace Casemiro and is 'a strategic reinforcement in the centre' of midfield.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with interest, though Igor Tudor's men are likely to have no European football to offer. Fussball Daten added that no official offers have been made yet, but talks are expected to be held with his representatives 'shortly'.
Chelsea are another team considering a move after having scouts to watch the Germany international this year. However, Liam Rosenior's men are well-stocked in midfield.
