Aston Villa have been linked with a Premier League rival amid interest shown in Morgan Rogers
It has been deemed ‘impossible’ that Nottingham Forest will be able to keep Morgan Gibbs-White on their books beyond the summer if they suffer relegation this season.
Aston Villa, alongside other Premier League clubs, have been linked with the midfielder who has reportedly made it clear he does not want to play Championship football.
Despite their strong run last season, Forest are currently fighting against relegation, as just three points separate them from the bottom three. The East Midlands side recently opted to replace Sean Dyche with Vitor Pereira, making the ex-Everton and Burnley man the third manager they have sacked this season.
Aston Villa target Morgan Gibbs-White could be looking for a summer move
According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Nottingham Forest will find it ‘impossible’ to convince Gibbs-White to stay at the City Ground if they are relegated this season.
There is ‘growing interest’ in the Forest midfielder, who is under contract until 2028. Aston Villa have been named as an interested party alongside Premier League rivals Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
Gibbs-White turned down interest from Spurs last summer after Forest finished seventh in the table. However, this season’s dismal run of form could push him towards the exit.
“If Nottingham Forest were to go down, it would be inevitable I think that he would move on. I don’t think he’s keen to play in the Championship,” O’Rourke said of the 26-year-old.
“Obviously, he came very close to a move away from the City Ground after Tottenham triggered his release clause, before he eventually signed a new deal until 2028. Although Forest won’t want to lose him, I’m sure they’ll probably will be expecting interest in him.
“There’s obviously talk that Tottenham could rekindle their interest, Man City have been long-term admirers of the player, and there’s been talk that Villa could be interested in Gibbs-White.”
Villa’s interest has ‘emerged in recent weeks’ in case they find themselves without Morgan Rogers next season. The versatile midfielder is the subject of significant attention at the moment and could receive multiple rival bids over the summer, as the likes of Liverpool keep a close eye on him.
