‘Back soon’ - Club provide fresh Bruno Guimaraes injury update amid 10-game Newcastle United…

Newcastle United latest news: Bruno Guimaraes will spend around two months on the sidelines as he nurses a ‘serious muscle injury’.

Guimaraes suffered the injury in the dying stages of the Magpies’ win in the capital and subsequently missed their trip to Villa Park at the weekend. Having only just returned from an ankle injury, seeing their captain leave the field of play with another injury was a major worry for Newcastle United fans.

Howe admitted in the minutes after the full-time whistle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last week that Guimaraes was ‘a little bit worried’ about the injury. Those worries were confirmed by Brazilian media late last week when Guimaraes was ruled-out of action for around eight weeks with a ‘serious muscle injury’.

If the Magpies progress against Qarabag, then Guimaraes will also miss their Round of 16 tie against Chelsea or Barcelona. In all, the former Lyon man could be out for ten matches during a season-defining period for the club in the Premier League and domestic and European cup competitions.

Bruno Guimaraes injury update

Having watched his teammates defeat Villa on TV on Saturday night, Guimaraes has flown to Brazil to continue treatment on his injury. Guimaraes will now work alongside Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro’s medical department and under the supervision and direction of Dr Rodrigo Lasmar.

The Brazilian club posted an update on their Instagram, revealing that Guimaraes had joined them for physio sessions. Alongside a picture of the Magpies man, the caption read: ‘Athlete of Newcastle-ING and Brazilian national team, midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is following injury treatment in Cidade do Galo. Under the supervision of @dr_rodrigolasmar and support of the best Club Medical Department in Brazil, the player prepares to return to the lawns in the best way! May you be back soon, @brunoguimaraes!’.

Guimaraes’ injury woes will not only rule him out of club action during the next couple of months, but they are also expected to keep him sidelined during Brazil’s upcoming friendly matches against France and Croatia. These games will give Carlo Ancelotti one final chance to assess his options before naming his final Brazil squad for this summer’s World Cup.

Guimaraes has been a regular under the Italian since he took over as manager and will more than likely be named in the Brazil squad for this summer’s tournament. However, missing those games in March and April could allow someone else to shine in his absence and give Ancelotti a headache or two to deal with before he names his first starting XI for their opening game against Morocco on Saturday 13 June.
