Wolverhampton Wanderers are now preparing a formal bid for a £45m forward, and they are frontrunners in the race for his signature.
Wolves readying offer for "incredible" forward
Wolves are almost certain to be relegated from the Premier League, having won just one game all season, and they have already started making plans for life in the Championship, with Rob Edwards saying after the signing of Adam Armstrong: "With Adam, he’s a signing for the long term.
Edwards added: "I've been maintaining that all month, that we want people who want to be here, who we think can affect us now and going forward as well, and he's certainly one of those people. He's really excited to be here."
Armstrong grabbed an assist in his first league outing for the Old Gold, albeit in a 3-1 defeat against Chelsea, and he could be capable of firing Edwards' side to promotion in the 2026-27 campaign, having previously amassed 91 goals and 37 assists in 277 Championship appearances.
Wolverhampton Wanderers' Adam Armstrong
Despite signing the 29-year-old, the Wanderers remain keen on bringing in another forward in the summer, and they have now emerged as frontrunners in the race for a Championship star.
That is according to a report from Sports Boom, which states Wolves are now preparing a formal bid for Ipswich Town star Jaden Philogene, but it could take a huge offer to get a deal over the line, with the Tractor Boys expected to hold out for at least £45m.
A fee in that ballpark would make the forward the most expensive signing in the Molineux outfit's history, eclipsing the £44m spent on Matheus Cunha.

It could be a tall order for the Old Gold to win the race for Philogene's signature, however, as Everton, West Ham United and Crystal Palace are also readying offers of their own.
Philogene could be "incredible" addition to Edwards' squad
In truth, it doesn't seem likely Wolves will be prepared to break their transfer record this summer, with relegation from the top flight near-certain, but if they are able to negotiate a deal, the Ipswich star could be a real statement signing.
Lauded as "incredible" by reporter Pete Smith, the 24-year-old has been excellent in front of goal for Ipswich this season, picking up ten goals and two assists in 26 matches across all competitions.

The former Hull City man is averaging 0.53 goals per 90 in the Championship, the second-highest number in the Ipswich squad, with an average of 1.2 interceptions per 90 ranking him in third place.
Philogene could be a fantastic signing for Wolves, but he might not be a realistic addition to Edwards' squad, given that he is showing signs he is ready to move to a Premier League club.
