Report: Leeds now set to sell "special" talent this summer with 49ers requirements shared

The 49ers are now ready to get ruthless and sanction the sale of an attacking talent if Leeds United receive a major offer this summer.

49ers ready to sell "special" Leeds star

Everyone involved at Elland Road should be delighted with how the current campaign is going. Daniel Farke's side are edging closer and closer to survival, as clubs around them continue to falter.

The German manager is repaying the faith that the 49ers showed at the start of the season when they were under pressure to make a managerial change. Whilst others twisted down at the bottom, choosing to sack their managers, Leeds chose to stick and have reaped the rewards ever since.

There's even a chance that the Whites enjoy an FA Cup run after defeating Birmingham City on penalties last weekend to set up a home clash against Farke's former club, Norwich City, in the next round.

After defeating Birmingham, Farke admitted that winning the competition may remain a fantasy, but a cup run is possible: "We know that the recent history of this club is not great in the FA Cup, but we’re on a little run already and that’s quite good.

"It’s perhaps not realistic to dream already about winning at Wembley. But I’m believer in the cup competition. I like a proper cup run and, whenever there’s a chance to go into the next (round), we want to grab it with both hands."

He impressed during the FA Cup fourth round.

A dramatic FA Cup run, combined with Premier League safety could leave the club in dreamland on the pitch and leave them well-placed to ruthlessly sell one attacking star this summer.

According to Football Insider, the 49ers are now ready to sell Wilfried Gnonto if a major offer arrives for his signature this summer after he has fallen down the pecking order at Leeds.

"Special" Gnonto still has plenty to offer

Although Farke's new 5-4-1 system has limited Gnonto's game time, selling the Italian would be a mistake. At 22 years old, he still has plenty to offer if Leeds can find him a new role in the current set-up.

Cashing in on a player who is yet to even reach the peak of his powers also wouldn't make a lot of sense from a business standpoint. As soon as Gnonto finds form, his price tag will skyrocket and that's when the 49ers could attract impressive offers.

It wasn't so long ago that the young winger was earning praise from the likes of Michael Skubula, who described him as "special" during his time as interim boss in 2023.

"He’s a great lad, he’s a special player. He’s a credit to Leeds, he’s a credit to himself and he’s a really nice player to work with."

As for Gnonto himself, it should come as little surprise that he's also got his sights set on an Elland Road departure if the opportunity arrives after his recent struggles.
