The midfielder has long been one of the best players in the Championship, and at the moment, he is spearheading Boro’s promotion charge.

He’s featured heavily so far, and certainly that will remain the case until the end of the season.

And one can be sure that in the coming months, Hackney’s future will be speculated over.

But Everton’s hopes of signing him might be slim after what he said about the interest in him.

It’s been claimed that a number of clubs are keen on Hackney going into the summer.

Everton’s interest in Hackney was pushed again in recent days, as a new £30 million valuation came to light.

The 23-year-old has been shining in the second tier for some time now, and many wonder if this might be his last season for Boro.

But by the sounds of it, it’s going to take a lot for Hackney to leave the Riverside, as he admitted what a ‘dream’ it is to play for the club.

He said: “No. Like I said earlier, this is the dream. To play for Middlesbrough.

“Obviously this year, and last year to be fair, I feel like we had a really good chance. Especially this year. I feel like if we just keep going the way we are, you never know.”

Everton face major uphill battle to sign Hackney

It’s interesting to hear Hackney saying it’s a ‘dream’ playing for Boro.

He is clearly extremely happy where he is right now, so perhaps it will be difficult for any club to get him this summer, not just Everton.

One would imagine that if Boro gain promotion, then it will surely be curtains for Everton in terms of trying to sign him.

It is fanciful to think Hackney wouldn’t want to play Premier League football with his boyhood club that he clearly loves.

So that would potentially be a bit of a blow for Everton, considering how Idrissa Gana Gueye is declining at the moment.
