Leeds United have been drawn at home to Norwich City in the FA Cup fifth round this week, with fans wondering if a trip to Wembley could be on the cards.
Premier League safety comes back into focus this week with Leeds returning to the second city with a trip to Aston Villa on Saturday.
However, Monday night brought a fairly favourable FA Cup draw that has rightly sparked some optimism amongst Leeds fans.
Leeds United drawn against Norwich City in FA Cup 5th round draw
Having narrowly escaped a cup upset at St Andrews on Sunday afternoon, Leeds have progressed to round five of the FA Cup.
Heading into the last 16, Leeds are just two victories away from a dream trip to Wembley. Our opponents for round five have now been revealed, with a home draw finally coming our way.
Leeds will take on Norwich City at Elland Road over the weekend of Saturday 7th March, welcoming Daniel Farke’s former club back to West Yorkshire.
The Whites have a strong record over the Canaries since Farke took the reins, winning four and drawing two, including a 4-0 drubbing in the Championship Playoff semi-final.
Leeds United edging closer to increasing financial boost with FA Cup progress
As we all know, Leeds have been working close to the threshold regarding spending limits. So, bringing in as much revenue as possible before the summer could be absolutely vital.
The FA Cup is of course a lucrative competition financially, more so for the ‘minnows’, but also for a club like Leeds that could go far.
We should fancy ourselves to see off Norwich in spite of their resurgence under Philippe Clement. That would take us to the quarter-finals, where we’d be one game away from a trip to Wembley. The prize money for the FA Cup is as follows:
Round Prize fund
Third round winners £121,500
Fourth round winners £127,000
Fifth round winners £238,500
Quarter-final winners £477,000
Semi-final winners £1,060,000
Semi-final losers £530,000
Final losers £1,060,000
Final winners £2,120,000
Should Leeds reach Wembley, we’ll earn £964,000 through prize money alone. Add to that the fact that our clashes with Derby County and Birmingham City were selected for TV, and that further enhances our revenue potential.
