Newcastle United star Bruno Guimarães is undergoing treatment back in Brazil for a thigh muscle injury.
That’s according to EPSN Brasil, relayed by Fogaonet. The Brazilian outlet reports that the Newcastle midfielder is continuing his treatment on the injury at Botafogo’s training centre.
He has now spent time with two Brazilian clubs. He has also spent about a week and a half using Atlético-MG’s facilities.
Guimarães suffered a grade 3 injury to his left hamstring in the closing stages of the 2-1 win over Tottenham last week. Eddie Howe later reported that the club were waiting to discover the full extent of the injury.
Newcastle absence
Reports say the Brazilian will be out for at least two months. That will keep him out of Brazil’s upcoming friendlies in March against France and Croatia.
The midfielder has opted to begin his recovery in his homeland. That started with Atlético-MG, where the Brazilian national team doctor. Rodrigo Lasmar, works. He’s now switched to Botafogo’s Lonier training centre.
The good news is that Guimarães will not miss the World Cup. It remains unclear whether he will return before the end of the Premier League season.
That will likely be very dependent on how his recovery goes back in Brazil. Newcastle will certainly keep a close eye on things.
