Facundo Buonanotte’s difficult debut for Leeds United was a real head-scratcher. A player compared with Lionel Messi, coming in after spending time on loan at Chelsea, only to be hooked at the break.
Buonanotte, who had only played 24 minutes for Leeds before this match, struggled to make an impact and was substituted at halftime. Leeds manager Daniel Farke was candid in his assessment of Buonanotte.
“He’s a very young player who hasn’t played much football in recent years. You can’t just arrive and deliver straight away, you have to fight for your rhythm,” Farke’s commented, defending Buonanotte.

The decision to bring Buonanotte on loan puzzled many, given Brenden Aaronson’s redemption arc. Of course, in the summer, Leeds fans were desperate for the Argentina international to move to Yorkshire.
Leeds might have been hoping for a quick fix to bolster their attacking options. But clearly, Buonanotte needs time to regain his momentum and rhythm, raising the question: was this the right move?
The pressure on Buonanotte is palpable. Yet, his performance against Birmingham was underwhelming, failing to complete a dribble or take a shot. Farke’s decision to replace him at halftime was embarrassing.

Farke added: “Of course, if you didn’t play much in the last month, it’s difficult to be at your very best physically. It’s also difficult regarding confidence level and rhythm of the game to be at your very best.
