Gary Rowett made his last appearance for Leicester in an away game in the Premier League vs. Fulham on the 27th of April 2002. He was booked and the clash ended in a 0-0 draw. Leicester were relegated after the season. Gary Rowett left and joined Charlton to continue his career at the highest level.

During his career he represented Everton, Derby, Birmingham, Leicester and Charlton among his clubs. He had a career lasting 16 years. Eight season in Premier League.

He played under managers such as Sam Allardyce, Joe Royle, John Beck, Peter Taylor, Jim Smith and Trevor Francis. A young Sam Allardyce signed Gary Rowett on loan at Blackpool. Joe Royle had him at Everton. John Beck at Cambridge. Peter Taylor signed Gary Rowett to Leicester. Jim Smith had him at Derby and Trevor Francis in charge at Birmingham.

His manager career started at Burton Albion. He had made a come back at non-league level as a player, and when Paul Peschisolido stepped down, Gary Rowett stepped up, it was back in 2009. He has later been in charge at Birmingham (twice), Derby, Stoke, Millwall and Oxford.

He was unfairly sacked by Oxford, who had no clear policy regarding transfers in the summer. He also had a problem keeping his club captain, Elliott Moore at the club.

He is a manager with a pragmatic approach. He can set up his teams in 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 and that should be possible at Leicester as well.

We believed this would be the correct signing and hopefully he can keep Leicester in the division. This is a short term solution. We have seen Nigel Worthington doing that type of job in the past, managing to keep us up.
