Ligue 1 club dream of signing Aston Villa player – Agents could push exit

Lille are keen on signing Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne in the summer.

That’s according to Media Foot, who cover the Ligue 1 side’s plan to take the left-back away from Aston Villa.

The France international graduated from Lille’s academy and spent two years with their first team.

He made 62 appearances before leaving them for Paris Saint-Germain in 2013, and said it was a logical step.

Aston Villa player dream target for Lille

Digne has been a regular since arriving at Villa Park from Everton in January 2022 and is a key player for Unai Emery. Last August, the Premier League side rewarded him with a new contract until 2028.

He has already played 30 matches in all competitions for the Villans this season. Despite the fullback enjoying regular minutes under Emery, Lille dream of signing him in the next window and the ‘idea of homecoming is in the works’.

As things stand, the potential deal is still in early stages as Digne’s former club haven’t made advances yet. However, Lille are considering bringing him back to the club after 13 years.

Lille are fifth in the table, level on points with sixth placed Stade Rennais and trail fourth placed Marseille by six points. They are aiming to qualify for the European competition and hope that would help them convince Digne.

Agents could push for Aston Villa exit

Last October, the former Barcelona man changed agents and is now managed by French agency, Classico.

Media Foot state his new representatives ‘could be the driving force behind this project of a return to France’ after this season.

The report makes no mention of the English club’s stance on letting the defender leave after this season. There’s also no indication whether Lille want to sign Digne on loan or via permanent transfer.

For now, Lille are dreaming of signing Digne, and this idea could become concrete soon. A lot of things need to fall into place before the deal to at least start taking shape.
