Igor Tudor needs to turn Tottenham’s fortunes around in the Premier League.
Tottenham are in serious trouble as they sit just five points above 18th-placed West Ham in the Premier League table. The Lilywhites have struggled to produce positive results in the league, which ultimately led the club to part ways with Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician was relieved of his duties after his side managed to win just two of their last 17 league matches.
In truth, Frank’s dismissal had felt inevitable for some time. Under his guidance, the players often appeared disjointed on the pitch, lacking a clear structure or coherent game plan. His pragmatic approach failed to inspire, and the team struggled to play attractive football. A string of home defeats in the Premier League, coupled with a return of just 29 points from 26 matches, was clear evidence that the Danish tactician had reached the end of the road at N17.
The persistent boos and jeers from the Spurs faithful further compounded Frank’s difficulties. Chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” frequently echoed around the stadium whenever performances dipped. It became evident that he had lost the backing of the supporters and had been living on borrowed time since the turn of the year. His departure felt unavoidable, regardless of any potential upturn in results.
Igor Tudor must get Tottenham back on board in the coming months
It has been a season to forget for Tottenham fans, with their club stuck in the bottom half of the Premier League table. For Igor Tudor, this presents an opportunity to step in and reconnect with the fanbase as he looks to restore winning form. The Croatian tactician has arrived on an interim basis, and at the very least, he must instil belief among supporters that his side can play attacking football until the end of the season.
Michael Lahoud has urged Tudor to bring the fans back onside and harness their support in the battle to retain top-flight status. Speaking on CBS Sports (via X), Lahoud said,
“He must connect with the fanbase. I think Tottenham fans are arguably the most toxic fanbase right now give what they’ve been through. Their ownership hasn’t been investing into the club. You’re going to need those Spurs fans to be your rallying cry. They are one of the worst teams at home in the Premier League this season.”
The pundit added,
“They’ve won two of their last 17 league matches. Not good enough. So, if you look at where they’re at, 29 points in the league… my opinion, they need to win four games to survive. And you’re going to need your fans to be the one to back in those moments.”
Lahoud believes Igor Tudor must reconnect with the Tottenham supporters by implementing a more attacking approach for the remainder of the season. The Spurs faithful have endured a turbulent campaign, and Tudor needs to give them renewed hope if the Lilywhites are to secure their top-flight status. According to Lahoud, Spurs may need at least four more league victories to steer clear of relegation, and strong backing from the stands could prove decisive.
Spurs’ home form in the Premier League has been particularly poor this season. Only Wolves have recorded fewer wins on home soil, underlining the team’s alarming decline. As a result, Igor Tudor may need to prioritise turning their home ground into a fortress once again, starting with his first home fixture against Arsenal in the North London derby this weekend.
