Vitor Pereira’s first Premier League match as Nottingham Forest head coach will be against Liverpol.
Ally McCoist has predicted that Nottingham Forest’s latest change in the hot seat will make no difference to their form.
Vitor Pereira has been appointed Forest’s new head coach, signing an 18-month deal. The Portuguese is the fourth man in charge of the City Ground outfit this season, with Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche all being axed.
Forest finished seventh in the Premier League last season. But this time around, they find themselves in a relegation battle. Forest are 17th in the table and three points clear of the bottom three.
Pereira’s first Premier League game comes when they host Liverpool on Sunday. Forest first travel to Fenerbahce in the Europa League knockout play-off first leg on Thursday.
And despite the latest change, made to inspire an upturn in results, McCoist reckons Forest will continue to struggle. Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist said: “I'm baffled by it. I'll say it again, the owner does things differently, does things his way, which he's quite entitled to do. But you're talking about a complete lack of stability in the managerial and coaching staff at Forest.I've got a wee feeling it might go horribly wrong for them, to tell you the gospel truth.
“There are a few clubs down there, Forest are bang in it, and I'm of the opinion that Sean Dyche would have kept them in the division. I'm just not sure they'll stay there now. They have got the bonus that there are two or three teams down there equally as poor as them, so you can look at that as a positive.
“But I don't see anything in the change. It's difficult to judge because there hasn't been any football played but I don't see anything in the change that will convince me that there is going to be an upturn in Forest's performances and results.”
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has failed to beat Forest since he took over at Anfield. When the two sides met on Merseyside in November, the Reds suffered a 3-0 defeat.
But Liverpool have lost just two of their past 19 games and head to the City Ground following successive wins over Sunderland and Brighton respectively.
On his appointment, Pereira told Forest’s media team: “I am very proud it is an honour for me to be part of this family, a good team, good feelings, now is time to work,” he said.
“We have very good conditions to work, the players have talents, we have very good players and now is time to start to build the identity that I want.
“For a manager it is important that the players and all the staff buy the idea and also the person because you must believe in the idea in the game. It is important to accept the person, we are human beings, mistakes can happen but it is important to recognise the values and believe in the leadership.”
