Newcastle United could land major Liverpool windfall amid interest in £35 million midfielder…

Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the former Liverpool midfielder.

A player sold by Liverpool last summer has been linked with a Premier League return.

According to reports, Tyler Morton is attracting interest from several English clubs because of his outstanding form for Olympique Lyonnais.

Morton joined Lyon in a deal worth £15 million in August. The midfielder was down the pecking order at Liverpool and did not make a single appearance en route to Arne Slot’s side winning the Premier League title. Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo were the preferred options, with Morton playing only five times in all competitions.

The 23-year-old made the decision to leave his boyhood club for Lyon - and has thrived. Morton has made 30 appearances for the French club, scoring two goals and three assists. Lyon’s 2-0 win over Nice last weekend was an incredible 13th successive victory in all competitions.

It has been suggested by SportsBoom that scouts from Chelsea, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest have all been to watch Morton, who helped England under-21s to European Championship glory last summer.

It is claimed that Lyon value Morton in the region of £30-35 million. Liverpool have a 20 per cent sell-on clause installed in the deal. It means that the Reds would land a profit of £4 million if the Lyon were to sell Morton for the top end of the said valuation.

Speaking to Sport Bible after leaving Liverpool, Morton said on his relationship with Slot: “I think he thought I was a good player, but I don’t feel the trust was there as much. In my opinion, the limited opportunities were down to trust and not ability.

“When I got my opportunity in the cup, I felt like I played well. That’s all I could say. I stuck at it, stayed focused, got through to the end of the season and played in the under-21 Euros, which was amazing.

“I had a few conversations with him during the season. A lot of footballers can be bitter about not playing and let their egos get in the way, but I’m not that type of lad.

“I personally disagreed with the limited amount of game time I got last season, but that was out of my control. I did everything I could. I played for the under-21s when a lot of players wouldn’t. I did everything in my power to stay fit and mentally focused for when my time came, and I still got limited opportunities.
