Newcastle United starting XI v Qarabag as Eddie Howe recalls £125m trio - predicted

The Magpies finished 12th in the Champions League table to set up a two-legged play-off tie against the Azerbaijan champions.

Eddie Howe’s side arrived in Baku on Tuesday afternoon and were boosted by the return of Joelinton following six games out with a groin injury.

“Joelinton's back in the squad, so that's a great boost for us,” Howe confirmed at his pre-match press conference. “Such an important player, such a big presence within our squad. Joe's such a real leader. He trained yesterday, he trained well and felt really good, so delighted with his return.

“No one else from the missing list, I think, has travelled from the last game, so we're missing quite a few players, and quite a few real quality players as well. So they're big misses for us, but we're coming here in good spirits from our last two games.”

Although Joelinton is back, United remain without midfielders Lewis Miley and Bruno Guimaraes, while Sven Botman hasn’t travelled after being ‘rested’ for Saturday’s FA Cup win over Aston Villa.

Botman is one of four defenders sidelined. Tino Livramento and Fabian Schar are out until March and April, respectively, while Emil Krafth is set to miss the rest of the campaign after undergoing knee surgery.
