San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York has promised that there will “always" be investment for Leeds United, ahead of the summer and the Elland Road expansion project.

United are due to start major construction on the stadium this summer, with preparation works already underway. Money spent on infrastructure does not count towards PSR and so will not impact club spending in the summer transfer window.

Leeds co-owner York has reiterated that “there will definitely" be more funds for United to utilise in the market given the ambition to make Leeds a Premier League regular once again.

And in the meantime, another goal is to make sure Elland Road remains the fortress it is amid the expansion to a capacity of 53,000.

“There’s nothing like Elland Road,” York told Talksport at the Fanatics Red Carpet event in San Francisco earlier this month, with the interview only recently released this week.

“Leeds to me is one of the biggest brands in all of sports, and our goal was to make sure we put Leeds back on the map and where they belong.

“Part of the process is making sure we keep the essence of Elland Road intact, and make it bigger and better. And truly for us, to stay in the Premier League for the foreseeable future.”

York added: “It’s not about the financial boost. It’s about making sure that a prominent team like Leeds United is where they belong.

“That is always the goal, the goal for us is always to win, whatever sports team we are involved in, it is always to win.

"Leeds is on the right track. Hopefully, we keep it rolling, and we see everything back where it belongs.”

Asked whether there would be investment for the summer, York replied: “There’s always investment, and there will definitely be more.”

Leeds have currently maxed out spending limits within PSR ahead of the new financial Squad Cost Ratio rules set to come in this summer. United voted against the implementation of the new system having wished for a few amendments to the framework.

In November, the vote passed marginally by 14 to six - the lowest threshold required for the changes to be ratified.
