**Liverpool will be without the injured Jeremie Frimpong for the weekend trip to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, according to a new report.**
The Dutchman hasn’t featured for the Reds since the end of January, having picked up a groin problem in the 6-0 win at home to Qarabag in the Champions League.
It has been a frustrating first season in a Liverpool shirt for Frimpong, who hasn’t been able to get much momentum going due to injuries, having arrived as such an exciting arrival from Bayer Leverkusen.
Next up for the Reds is a league clash at Forest on Sunday afternoon, in an important game at both ends of the table, and [_The Athletic_](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7052797/2026/02/17/jeremie-frimpong-liverpool-injury-update/) report that Frimpong will remain unavailable for the game.
They state that Liverpool are “likely to be without” the defender “for another week”, as he “completes the final stages of his recovery from a groin injury.”
**Liverpool desperately need Jeremie Frimpong back**
-----------------------------------------------------
Right-back has been a problem position all season long, with Conor Bradley out injured for the rest of the campaign, not to mention Frimpong being in and out of the team.
Having the latter back in the fold as soon as possible is vital for the Reds, with [Arne Slot](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2025/12/slot-frimpong-liverpool-low-block-tactics/) making it clear how highly he rates him as an important figure at Liverpool, saying:
_“If he’s fit, he can definitely helps us, because last week he had the assist against Tottenham and today he had a great assist against Wolves. Pace, that’s what he has, and that’s so important and crucial in modern football. To create something against a low block, teams that defend with so many players, usually teams break this down with set-pieces – that’s not our biggest strength.”_
It is important that Liverpool don’t rush Frimpong back too soon, and it looks as though it will be between Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones as to who starts at right-back away to Forest on Sunday.
Jones shone in that role in the 3-0 win against Brighton in the FA Cup last weekend, so it makes sense to retain him there, prior to Frimpong hopefully returning before the end of the month.
