£43k a week Leeds United star to be handed brutal reality check by Daniel Farke ahead of Aston…

Leeds United

Leeds United spent over £100 million in the transfer market this summer, building a team capable to surviving in the Premier League. The Whites spent much on many areas of the pitch.

They solved one huge problem this summer as they brought in Lucas Perri to be the club’s number one. Recruitment added some serious quality to the squad ahead of their Premier League return, like Anton Stach and Jaka Bijol.

It was when it came to the attack that fans were a bit frustrated; throughout the summer, the Whites were linked with big names. Eventually, the club settled on Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin as their attacking signings.

Leeds United star set to be benched against Aston Villa

Calvert-Lewin has been a bright spark in the Leeds attack this season, becoming the club’s current top scorer. Many were against his signing in the summer, mainly due to his wages and injury record. Lukas Nmecha was in the same boat; his playing time in the Bundesliga was not impressive at all. But since both players arrived at Elland Road, the goals have been coming.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin will get all the headlines, but Lukas Nmecha has played a solid role in the team this season. With the striker having missed recent games, the German had to step in. And he has delivered, with two goals in two games against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.

Daniel Farke has his first choice

Calvert-Lewin returned to the team this week and came off the bench in the FA Cup tie against Birmingham City. The Whites now sit in 15th place in the table and stand a huge chance of survival as the season goes on. Up next for Daniel Farke’s men is a trip to Villa Park. One thing we know before the game even kicks off is that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will return to his starting spot.

For some reason, since Farke discovered the 3-5-2 and played the duo together at the Etihad, he has rarely used the same combination since. It has either been Calvert-Lewin up front or Nmecha up front. It will be a blow to the German; at many points in the season where he has picked up some form, he has been benched for the Englishman. But ultimately, it should not be a problem for the club; they have two very good center forwards who can produce goals when needed. Their fitness will be crucial from now till the end of the season.
