Manchester United starlet JJ Gabriel could shatter a club record that has stood for almost 70 years. The teen sensation has been hailed as one of the greatest talents to emerge from the United academy in modern times.
Gabriel, 15, has been tipped for a huge future at Old Trafford. And many fans have already called for the teenager to make his first-team debut after impressing so consistently in the youth ranks.
If he were to turn out for United today, Gabriel would become the youngest player to ever pull on the iconic red at senior level. The current record belongs to former United goalkeeper David Gaskell, who was just 16 years and 19 days old when he debuted in the 1956 FA Charity Shield (now the Community Shield).
However, Gabriel is a victim of his own success at such an early stage of his career, which has already seen him train with the first team. That's because Premier League laws prevent the player from featuring in the competition precisely because of his age.

The current rules stipulate that all eligible players must have celebrated their 15th birthday on or before August 31 of any playing season. Considering Gabriel only turned 15 in October, that means he's banned from featuring in the current term.
However, there remains a very small window in which he could still make a historic bow next campaign. Gabriel will be approaching his 16th birthday by the time the 2026/27 season gets underway.

That leaves roughly eight weeks for the prodigious attacker to make his first-team debut and break Gaskell's record. However, he'll also need a lot of fortune to fall his way between now and then.
Despite his age, Gabriel has been in firing form for United's under-18s all season. And he'll need that form to persist in order to earn his first senior call-up, not to mention avoiding any potential injury or fitness setbacks come August.

There's also the small matter of United's fluid managerial situation at present. Michael Carrick will remain in charge in an interim capacity until the end of this season, with no clear indication as to whether he'll get the job permanently just yet.
Carrick was present as Gabriel scored in a recent 3-1 derby victory over Manchester City's under-18s. The manager's son, Jacey, was also playing on an adjacent pitch as United's under-16s lost 4-2 to their City counterparts.
Gabriel now boasts 15 goals in 20 outings for the under-18s across all competitions this term. He's also made three appearances for England's under-16s but is yet to find the back of the net for the Young Lions.
Anticipation has been building around Gabriel's first-team entry for some time as he looks to follow in the footsteps of Arsenal gem Max Dowman. History awaits for the youngster next term, though he'll require no small amount of good luck to take his place in the United annals.
