Admission made over international future of Rotherham United's on-loan Leeds United prodigy

Rotherham United’s on-loan Leeds United prodigy Harry Gray will represent England over Scotland if given the opportunity, believes his great uncle Eddie Gray.

Harry and his older brother Archie are the latest products of the Gray family’s talent production line.

Both are England youth internationals but are also eligible to represent Scotland as their father Andy, grandfather Frank and great uncle Eddie did.

While Scotland fans will undoubtedly hope the pair are convinced to switch allegiance, the chance of it happening has been downplayed.

International futures of Archie and Harry Gray

Speaking on Sam Allardyce’s ‘No Tippy Tappy Football’ podcast, Eddie Gray said: “I think, Archie, if he’s good enough and he progresses in his career, I think he’ll probably stick to England.

“I don’t like it, but I think he’ll probably do it. He has represented England at all ages as a schoolboy, the underage groups.

“Scotland made enquiries about what he wants to do but he was born in England, he’s English.

“His younger brother [Harry], he’s very outspoken. When he was younger he used to say ‘I’m going to play for Scotland’ but I think if he’s good enough he’ll play for England as well.

“If they’re growing up in England, playing for English clubs, I think it just follows suit that they’ll end up playing for England.

“Archie’s played for the underage sides for England, if Harry progresses how it looks as if he’ll progress, he’ll end up playing for the English sides as well. We’ll wait and see.”

Leeds gave the younger Gray brother his senior debut last term, but their promotion to the Premier League intensified competition for places.

His older brother Archie, meanwhile, has racked up 71 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur since his £40m move from Leeds in the summer of 2024.
