It has been something of a season to forget for [West Ham’s](https://www.claretandhugh.info/edson-alvarez-recall-option-claret-and-hugh-spill-the-beans-west-ham-news/) loaned- out and long forgotten midfielder Edson Alvarez. Dispatched to Fenerbahce at the end of the summer by Graham Potter who decided he was surplus to requirements, ‘El Machin’ hoped for a fresh start in Turkey and was greeted with adulation by local fans upon his arrival.
However his season has been dogged by injury with an ankle problem persisting – as written a few days ago Alvarez has twice tried unsuccessfully to come back and has aggravated his injury.
It seems he’s succumbed to surgery despite his Mexican national side hoping to avoid losing their captain ahead of the summer World Cup.
Finally something positive for the loaned out Hammer: It seems Alvarez’ surgery has been a success- as reported by ‘in the know’ Fabrizio Romano – and Alvarez now hopes he’s on course for a return to full fitness ahead of the summer tournament.

Alvarez’ social media post confirmed he’d had successful surgery on his ankle.
_“These have been difficult days, weeks, and months. I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason, even when it’s not easy to understand. I’m learning to be grateful even in the moments when life tests me. This is also part of the journey. I’m 100% focused on my recovery so I can come back stronger and continue doing what I love most. 🥷🏿❤️🔥 “What stands in the way becomes the way.”_
