Leeds United to battle Everton and West Ham to sign £17.5m in-form striker

Promise David

In the January transfer window, Leeds United pushed hard to try and sign a new center forward. After signing Facundo Buonanotte early in the window, the club set their sights on another major target.

The 49ers had Jorgen Strand Larsen a priority in the final days of the window. The Wolves striker was made available, with the club knowing their fate in the Premier League. Leeds made an official enquiry and even had a bid rejected for the Norwegian international. But ultimately, Wolves did not like the proposal the 49ers put forward – they wanted a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

Leeds wanted to pay the full fee for the striker in the summer due to PSR. Crystal Palace stepped in and completed the deal, with Wolves getting the transfer fee up front.

Leeds United to rival Everton and West Ham for star striker

It looks like the pursuit of a new center forward will continue when the summer comes around. According to SportsBoom, Union Saint-Gilloise have set their asking price for star striker Promise David ahead of this summer. Premier League clubs like West Ham and Everton are very interested in a deal alongside Leeds United. The Belgian club want £17.5million for the Canadian international.

It is believed that some clubs will attempt to sign the 24-year old ahead of the World Cup in order to avoid any inflation if he performs at the tournament this summer. The report also adds that Leeds’ recruitment team see Promise David as the ideal target man for English football. He would fit in with the recruitment trend, as he is very similar to what the club were looking for in Jorgen Strand Larsen in January.

Any deal will depend on Premier League status

With the season still having games to go, Leeds United now have even more incentive to remain in the top flight. The Premier League has signed an improved broadcast deal which will see clubs make millions ahead of next season. This could mean that the Whites will have a huge transfer budget if they manage to survive. Now, everything depends on the players and Daniel Farke continuing their current form from now till the end of the season. Avoiding relegation will be one of the biggest boosts the club could receive in the coming months.
