Sunderland are one of several clubs who have been credited with an interest in Bournemouth star Marcos Senesi.
Sunderland are one of several Premier League clubs to have expressed an interest in Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, but the player has had his “head turned” by the prospect of joining La Liga giants Barcelona, according to reports.
The 28-year-old is out of contract on the south coast at the end of the current campaign, and as such, is expected to be available on a free transfer in the summer after supposedly informing the Cherries that he does not intend to pen a fresh extension.
It is within this context that online outlet TEAMtalk claim Senesi has found himself on the radar of a number of English sides, including Sunderland, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United. This latest update claims that the Black Cats, alongside their rivals, have spoken with the player’s camp in recent weeks, while Chelsea are also said to have made an approach of their own to his representatives.
But as things stand, it would appear that Senesi would ideally prefer to link up with Barcelona, who have “accelerated” talks of late, and represent the “most intriguing” proposition to Argentine at the present moment in time. Elsewhere on the continent, the likes of Juventus and Napoli are said to be monitoring the situation, as are Barca’s Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid.
Speaking to TEAMtalk, a source reportedly said: “There is a lot of interest in Marcos, but when Barcelona are interested, that is tough to ignore. He has not ruled out anything as yet, but fair to say Barca is a huge lure.”
For his part, Senesi signed for Bournemouth from Dutch outfit Feyenoord, and has gone on to establish himself as an integral presence at the Vitality Stadium in the period since. At the time of writing, he has made 116 appearances for Andoni Iraola’s men, including 27 in all competitions so far this season, providing four assists in the process, despite predominantly operating as a centre-back.

What has Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola said about Marcos Senesi’s contract situation?
Addressing Senesi’s contract situation during a press conference back in December, Bournemouth boss Iraola said: "The most important thing is that he's playing very well. Both parties still have time regarding his contract situation - there are still seven months left. There is no doubt I want him to continue here."
Earlier in the month, Iraola admitted that the defender was a “very valuable” member of his side, stating that it is “no secret” as to how much he brings to the Cherries in both a defensive and attacking sense.
