“I’d say..”: Sam Allardyce makes Leeds United, West Ham relegation comment – Eddie Gray agrees

Leeds United and West Ham are two of the several sides looking to avoid the final Premier League relegation slot.

After the win in the FA Cup, Leeds United’s attention turns back to the Premier League with a tough trip away to Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.

With a six-point gap to the bottom three and a healthier goal difference, Leeds are in strong position to stave off relegation fears.

How are Leeds United looking in the Premier League relegation battle?

As a Leeds fan, we’re naturally coded to not feel comfortable about our prospects until it’s mathematically certain. If any club can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, it’s Leeds.

That being said, the neutrals are justifiably confident of Leeds staying in the division. Looking at the table and Leeds’ final 12 games, there’s reason to believe why.

Position Club P W D L GD PTS

14 Brighton 26 7 10 9 0 31

15 Leeds United 26 7 9 10 -9 30

16 Spurs 26 7 8 11 -1 29

17 Nott’m Forest 26 7 6 13 -13 27

18 West Ham 26 6 6 14 -17 24

19 Burnley 26 4 6 16 -23 18

20 Wolves 26 1 6 19 -32 9

Not only do Leeds have a nice six-point cushion, but CannonStats‘ breakdown of remaining fixtures has Leeds with the most favourable run-in of any club.

With 12 games left, Leeds are at the bottom of their ‘difficulty rating’ while West Ham are perceived to have the worst of any club.

Sam Allardyce and Eddie Gray agree on Leeds United’s Premier League survival

It’s a fairly open relegation battle, even if Leeds are in a solid place right now.

Former Leeds boss Sam Allardyce spoke with Whites legend Eddie Gray this week to discuss how the bottom of the Premier League table is shaping up, and who is going to get relegated.

“Well, a couple of weeks ago, I would have said West Ham, but not now,” Allardyce said on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast. “So, I’d say a change of manager now, Forest.”

“I think Forest are going to be under pressure, I agree with Sam,” Gray responded. “West Ham have just got a little run going. Sam said three or four weeks ago, you’re saying West Ham without a doubt.

“They’ve got a couple of results, it just gives them that bit of hope. They’re still in trouble but I think they’ll have enough, especially in home games.”

Can Leeds United avoid Premier League relegation alongside FA Cup run?

The home draw against Norwich City begs the question of whether we prioritise maybe getting to the FA Cup semi-finals. But, the priority is always going to be Premier League survival.

We’d all love a trip to Wembley and you’d go as far as saying winning the thing would be better than virtually anything we’ve ever experienced at the club.

However, we’re in such a good place to establish ourselves back in the top flight, where we can kick on and challenge long-term for these prizes.

What’s refreshing is that we’re not being talked about as often in these relegation conversations. Long may it continue.
