Manchester United have been linked with a move for Sandro Tonali in recent weeks.

Former Everton and Aston Villa chief Keith Wyness has claimed Sandro Tonali will join Manchester United this summer.

Speculation has surrounded the Italian’s future in recent weeks. His agent, Beppe Riso, has openly revealed that he will meet with Newcastle officials to discuss Tonali’s options.

Arsenal were reportedly snooping around the midfielder on deadline day but Newcastle had no interest in losing the player midday through the season. Since the Saudi-backed takeover, Toon bosses have been adamant that they wish to keep their best players at St James’ Park - although Alexander Isak’s sale damaged that stance.

Former Premier League chief on Sandro Tonali

Speaking to Football Insider, ex-Premier League chief Wyness - who worked as CEO for Everton and Villa - believes Tonali will be a Man United player next season. He said: “Well, we saw Tonali hit two great goals as well at the weekend in the FA Cup.

“Look, I do think he has got a good relationship with Eddie Howe, but I don’t think that’s going to change the fact that I do believe Tonali will be moving this summer. And I think Man United are still the club that I think he’s got his sights on, and they’ve got their sights on him.

“So I’m afraid that, you know, yes, everybody’s going to be saying nice things right now, because why would you upset the apple cart at this stage in the season? And I do think he has a good relationship. Tonali is well respected by the fans. Those goals were excellent at the weekend. But still, I do think he’s going to be making that move in the summer.”

Tonali hit out at the rumours surrounding his Newcastle future. He celebrated the second goal against Villa with Eddie Howe in a show of solidarity towards his manager.

“After the second goal, I came to Eddie because in the past week, people spoke a lot about our relationship,” Tonali added. “I work every day with the gaffer, the gaffer works every day with me. Our relationship is perfect - it is not broken. We try to do the best for this team.”
