Anthony Gordon has slammed talk that he will leave Newcastle United after renewed talk of a summer move from St James' Park.

Despite scoring FOUR goals in Baku against Qarabag, Gordon incredibly insisted he was not satisfied with his performance and should have had a double hat-trick in the 6-1 rout of the Azerbaijan outfit. His superb display in the Champions League comes on the back of reports that he could move to Arsenal, Manchester United or his home club Liverpool.

But Gordon says that nothing could be further from the truth, when asked about the stories of him being the next big star to leave Tyneside, he told Chronicle Live: "About me? I haven't seen them. What are they saying?"

When told he has been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool in recent weeks, Gordon said: "It's the same old, same old. I think they just pick names out of a hat. They do (names out of the hat). I haven't heard anything; they might want to tell me before they tell you (the media)."

When asked if he just wanted to focus on being a Newcastle legend, Gordon said: "Of course. I have gone through enough transfer stuff now to know that it is all a load of rubbish."

Gordon has previously admitted his head was turned by talk of a move to Anfield in summer 2024. But now at 24, the maturing forward gave a refreshingly honest response when talking about his future.

He said: "I am focused on me and focused on the team, I am focused on right now. You look too far in the future and you start to underperform. And believe me I have done that (before) and I am not going to do that now."

Gordon's tally of Champions League goals is now 10 for the campaign with 14 to his name overall this season. But he was disappointed not to have more to his name.

Gordon said: "Yeah, I should have scored more - I should have had six goals. I missed two chances that I should score. I don't want to call them easy but they were chances that I should score. I am always looking for more.

"I scored four but I am that type of person, I am not fully happy with what I have achieved, it should have been six, maybe next time."

In the immediate aftermath respectful Eddie Howe would not accept the tie was put to bed at 6-1. And Gordon reflected: "A tie is never dead - even at 6-1. We have all watched football enough, anything can happen.

"They are a great team, they have a lot of quality, I actually think we just defended really well. We didn't give them many opportunities. But we have our mentality, and we look forward to the next leg."

So the dream of winning a trophy remains on for Newcastle with the FA Cup road to glory still open, as well as the more difficult road to Budapest for the final.

When asked if Newcastle could win something again this season Gordon ended the interview by saying: "I hope so, I hope so."

And with that, the flying forward was off to catch his flight home from Baku, still buzzing after a four-goal salvo.
