After Arsenal’s resounding 7-1 aggregate win over Leuven in the UWCL Round of 16 playoff, the Gunners will now face Chelsea in a mouth watering Champions League quarter-final tie.
The first leg will be played at the Emirates on March 25 or 26 (tickets will go on sale on Friday), with the second leg at Stamford Bridge on 1 April at 8pm. It marks the first time the teams have met in the competition and the first time Arsenal have faced English opposition since they were knocked out by Birmingham City in 2014.
Arsenal are the defending European champions having won their second Champions League title last season, adding to the one they won in 2007. Chelsea have yet to win the competition. With both teams lagging behind Manchester City at the top of the WSL, the tie takes on extra importance, though Arsenal have won silverware this season in the shape of the FIFA Champions Cup.
The winners of the Arsenal v Chelsea tie will play the winners of Lyon v Wolfsburg or Juventus in the semis in April.
