Ange Postecoglou spent just 39 days as the Nottingham Forest head coach, but that was long enough to recognise the quality of Elliot Anderson.
Postecoglou was the man tasked with replacing Nuno Espirito Santo in the Forest dugout, and he failed to win any of the nine games that he oversaw at the City Ground.
Supporters never took to Postecoglou at Forest, and in his very first home game against Midtjylland in the Europa League, fans told him, ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ as the Reds trailed 3-1.
Now, Postecoglou has lifted the lid on his time at Forest, raving about Anderson as one of the top players within the squad during his time at the club.

Ange Postecoglou rates Forest star Elliot Anderson highly
Anderson has been one of the star attractions on Trentside since making a £35 million move from Newcastle in the summer of 2024.
Postecoglou saw first-hand just how good Anderson was for Forest, and after lifting the lid on his 39-day tenure, the Australian told The Overlap just how good the midfielder was.
He said: “That’s what suckered me in (the chance to work with a good squad). The squad was brilliant at Forest to be fair. (Elliot) Anderson, top player, really top, top player, honestly, working with him every day, you realise that.”
Anderson is being linked with Manchester City and Liverpool ahead of the summer window, and with the midfielder set to star with England at the World Cup, his days at Forest do look numbered.

Anderson will go to the top but one thing is holding him back
With City, Arsenal, Liverpool and both Manchester clubs linked with Anderson at various points, it’s clear that the youngster will enjoy a very good career.
Anderson has stood out in a poor Forest season during 2025/26, but there is one thing that will stop him from becoming an elite player right now.
A lack of goals and his inability to pull the trigger on the edge of the area when he gets the chance are holding him back, with shooting arguably the worst attribute that he possesses right now.
Still, the player is young and with bags of potential still to be unearthed, his shooting limitations are still something that could come good in future years.
