Who is Etta Eyong? Get to know Everton's newest transfer target

The winter transfer window has only just shut, but Everton are already making plans for the summer.

After a purple patch over the festive period, Thierno Barry is now struggling to deliver the goals for Everton, and his all-round game still needs great improvement.

Beto has already shown over a longer period of time that he just isn’t up to the standard required for a team chasing Europe.

So, Everton are expected to sign a striker in the summer, and David Moyes already has his eye on Etta Eyong.

Would you rather sign a promising young striker overseas or a proven Premier League centre-forward? 🤔

What kind of striker is Etta Eyong?

Eyong has actually transitioned from a midfielder to a striker during his time in Spain, so naturally mobility is one of his strengths.

Analyst Bola Atta notes that the Cameroon international has really smart movement and can operate in a front two: “Karl Etta Eyong’s greatest strength lies in his positional intelligence.

“Although naturally explosive, he doesn’t rely solely on pace or physicality; instead, his influence stems from timing, body orientation, and subtle off-the-ball movements that manipulate the defensive line.

“In Levante’s 4-4-2 setup, Eyong operates as part of a front two alongside Ivan Romero, often taking the role of the more mobile striker.

“Rather than staying fixed between the centre-backs, he drifts into the left half-space to create dynamic angles for combination play and to stretch the defensive block horizontally.”

How much will Etta Eyong cost?

CSKA Moscow are willing to pay in excess of £26m for Eyong, but the 22-year-old reportedly isn’t keen on a move to Russia.

For clubs in Spain, he has a release clause of around £25m, and it has been reported that for overseas sides, it stands at £34m.

So, the Toffees will have to stump up the latter if they’re to land his signature ahead of several other interested parties, including Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United.
