Bruno Guimaraes might be injured but he remains as dialled in as ever on all things Newcastle United.
Bruno Guimaraes roared Newcastle United on from a hospital bed as Eddie Howe’s men smashed Qarabag in the Champions League.
The skipper has been given permission to travel to Brazil to undergo the first leg of his rehabilitation. Guimaraes suffered a hamstring strain in the closing stages of Newcastle’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.
The extent of his injury was revealed last Friday, with the midfielder set to spend up to 10 weeks on the sidelines. This dealt a huge blow to the Magpies given Guimaraes' impact - with 16 goal contributions - in 2025-26.

The three-hour time difference was not going to stop Guimaraes from supporting his teammates in the Champions League. Lying in a hospital bed, the Brazilian posted “come on boys” while fixated on the TV screen.

Newcastle once again delivered in their captain’s absence to plant one foot in the last 16. A ruthless first-half performance gave United a five-goal advantage, with Jacob Murphy netting in the closing stages after Qarabag pulled one back.
The 6-1 scoreline became Newcastle’s biggest win in the competition - and gave 2,000 travelling Geordies a night to remember. Next week’s reverse leg at St James’ Park promises to be a non-event but gives Howe the chance to rotate amid a hectic fixture schedule.
‘Tie not over’ - Eddie Howe
Howe refused to get carried away at the full-time whistle and wants his players to do a professional job on Tyneside next week. Howe told TNT Sports: “Overall, it's just a great day for us. We know the tie's not dead or over, but we've put ourselves in a great position.
“I just think we've got to be professional in every moment. We know our football can change. We've just seen that we've won three games in the blink of an eye and the feeling's very different. We respect every opponent and we have to be very good in the next game.”
