Barcelona have delivered a positive update on Marcus Rashford’s recovery from a knee injury. The Manchester United loanee has been sidelined for his parent club’s last two games.
Rashford has relished his loan spell with the Catalan club. In his second stint away from Old Trafford, the 28-year-old has scored 10 goals and provided 13 assists in 34 appearances.
The deal between United and Barcelona is understood to include a buyout clause of around £26million to make the forward’s loan spell permanent. It has been reported that United now regret the transfer agreement, as Rashford’s return to form has increased his value.
Rashford has been clear in his desire to remain at the Camp Nou beyond this season. However, his latest injury could have derailed any transfer plans if it were more serious than first feared.
Fortunately for Rashford, Barcelona and England manager Thomas Tuchel, it appears that the United loanee is nearing a return to fitness. The Spanish club provided an update on Thursday, which explained that Rashford and Barcelona teammate Pedri had returned to training.

A Barcelona club statement read: “Back out on the pitch at the Ciutat Esportiva. Hansi Flick's squad train for the first time this week to begin preparations for the clash against Levante at the Spotify Camp Nou. And there were two new faces, as Pedri and Rashford joined in for part of the session with the team.
“The blaugranes were out on Camp Tito Vilanova for training after two days off with returning to a run of positive results the aim. They were boosted today with the Canary Island midfielder and the English forward joining in for part of the session with the group. Emilio and Brian from Barça Atlètic were also involved.”
The update suggests that Rashford only partially trained with the squad but it will still be a welcome boost for Flick’s side, who have suffered in the forward’s absence. The club lost 4-0 to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final last Thursday before enduring a 2-1 defeat to Girona on Monday.

It has been reported that United are unwilling to reduce Rashford’s £26m buy option, despite claims that Barcelona want to renegotiate the fee. While Rashford has maintained his wish to stay with the Spanish side, it remains to be seen whether the club’s well-documented financial constraints prove to be an obstacle during the summer window.
Meanwhile, Rashford will be fully focused on regaining his place for Barcelona’s home game against Levante on Sunday, having watched the club slip two points behind Real Madrid in La Liga. He has been named in the starting XI for 20 of his 34 appearances and will hope for an extended run in the team as he targets a place in the England side at this summer’s World Cup.
