Newcastle United will have the Arsenal fan base behind them when they face Manchester City this weekend.

Piers Morgan has called upon Newcastle United to upset the apple cart by beating Manchester City this weekend.

That could be a forlorn task, with the Magpies never winning a Premier League game at the Etihad. Newcastle’s only triumph on the road to Man City in recent times was in the League Cup 12 years ago.

Arsenal remain top of the table by five points but are now calling upon favours from other clubs to get them over the line. Last night saw the Gunners squander a two-goal lead against rock-bottom Wolverhampton Wanderers - with many believing a title choke is inevitable.

For three consecutive seasons, Mikel Arteta’s side have finished second. Arsenal were nine points clear on February 8 but, should results go a certain way, can relinquish top spot as early as next Saturday.

Piers Morgan calls on Newcastle United

Speaking to talkSPORT, celebrity journalist Morgan - a famous Gooner - has backed Newcastle to beat Man City. He said: “It’s going to be a hell of a run-in. City are going to be breathing all over us. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Newcastle beat them on Saturday and we beat Tottenham on Sunday and, suddenly, it all looks like we’re worrying about nothing.

“Have your fun, but let me assure you. We will reset, we will beat Tottenham, we will beat Chelsea, City will choke against Newcastle and Saturday and we will win the league. I still believe we are going to win the quadruple and then all of the mockery is going to get reposted - by me - to nine million people on my X feed for the next calendar year.”

Eddie Howe on Newcastle United away form

Speaking last night, Eddie Howe suggested Newcastle have finally banished their away-day demons. Three straight victories on the road has eased the pressure that had mounted on the Toon boss.

"It looks like, with the run of away games, we've worked out how to play away,” Howe told reporters. “It's been a really good return, the last three games. We've had really tough games, navigated them really well and I think we've shown that we're a good team, so I'm really happy with where we're at, at the moment."
