West Ham Transfer Exclusive | Striker Rejects Hammers After January Snub

Representatives of Canadian and Union Saint-Gilloise striker Promise David have spoken exclusively to Claret & Hugh this afternoon following reports suggesting the player had held talks about joining West Ham United.

David was heavily linked in the build-up to the January transfer window, with groundwork laid for a move to the London Stadium. The striker had agreed in principle to join West Ham for €24m, on the understanding he would be sold for the same amount should the Hammers be relegated.

In the end, the transfer never got over the line, with manager Nuno Espírito Santo instead opting to sign Taty Castellanos and Pablo for a combined £47m.

“He Thought He Was Joining West Ham”

Following earlier reports suggesting the deal could be revived this summer, Claret & Hugh spoke to a source very close to the player, who was clear about what happened:

“There have been no new talks. He [David] thought he was joining West Ham. We spoke to them in December but they took too long to decide and then signed other players.”

The source continued:

“The manager didn’t think he suited the style, but Promise was confident he would score goals. He won’t go to West Ham, there are no talks — the story is rubbish.”

Claret & Hugh were also told that David has several offers from Champions League clubs and will be leaving Belgium this summer. It now seems certain that East London will not be his destination.
