West Ham player now explains why he snubbed Everton

West Ham United goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski snubbed the chance to join former manager David Moyes at Everton because he wanted to stay here in east London.

Fabianski left West Ham United upon the expiration of his contract at the end of last season but re-joined the club in September.

The veteran goalkeeper has been dealing with a back injury, however, and hasn’t featured for the club since his return.

Fabianski joined the Irons from Swansea City in 2018 and has made 216 appearances.

Things are looking up 😍 So who are we sending down to the Championship?!

Forest? Leeds?……Spurs? 🙏

Such are the depth of the roots he’s put down in east London, the goalkeeper and his family wanted to remain here despite having other options on the table.

Everton made an approach to sign him but, after speaking to his family, Fabianski decided to come back to West Ham.

Speaking to Sportowefakty, he said: “I had several offers, from Everton for the second goalkeeper, there was an inquiry from Legia [Warsaw], I had various conversations.

Lukasz Fabianski’s record under David Moyes

It certainly makes sense as to why Moyes would make a move for the former Arsenal stopper.

Fabianski made 153 appearances under Moyes at West Ham, keeping 41 clean sheets in the process.

Moyes dropped Fabianski at West Ham but clearly wanted a reunion on Merseyside, presumably to act as third-choice goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and Mark Travers.

Lukasz Fabianski on verge of West Ham United record

Fabianski is injured at West Ham, but there is a feasible chance he could yet break a long-standing club record before the season is finished.

Should the 40-year-old make one more competitive appearance, he will become the oldest goalkeeper to play for the club in the Premier League. Jussi Jaaskelainen currently holds that record.

It will be fascinating to see if one final appearance is forthcoming. The stakes are high at West Ham right now, and there is little room for sentiment.

With Mads Hermansen and Alphonse Areola battling for a starting berth in goal, it does not feel likely.
