Man Utd discussing move to sign "brilliant" Newcastle player with Pif considering big-money exit

Manchester United and INEOS are now discussing a shock move to sign a rival Premier League star, who could be allowed to leave his club this summer.

Rooney calls for permanent Carrick hire

Whilst they didn't quite make it five wins in a row last time out, as West Ham United secured an impressive 1-1 draw, it has still been an excellent month for Man United.

Manchester United need to find a different solution on the left flank after West Ham.

The Red Devils have been a side transformed under Michael Carrick, who is yet to lose a Premier League game as a manager. And as he continues to impress, club legend Wayne Rooney has called on INEOS to give the interim boss the permanent position at Old Trafford.

Rooney told The Overlap: "We’ve been there and tried different managers – (Jose) Mourinho, (Louis) van Gaal, (Erik) ten Hag and (Ruben) Amorim – and for me Carrick makes sense.

"Not because we’ve played together and we’re friends, but because he is a real calming influence.

"Having someone there who knows the club and cares for the club makes a big difference. Michael is managing the whole squad and managing them well."

The Premier League legend then added: "The players who are starting, they’re fine you don’t have to manage them, but the other lads – we’ve seen the impact on (Matheus) Cunha, (Benjamin) Sesko, (Harry) Maguire, (Lisandro) Martinez. He’s having an impact on the whole squad and football club."

It's becoming tougher and tougher to argue against Carrick's case, even amid recent links with the likes of Roberto De Zerbi. Whether INEOS choose to pull the trigger and run with the former Middlesbrough boss remains to be seen, however.

Whoever does take the job looks set to be backed in the summer transfer window, with the Red Devils keen to build on the last month of positives.

Man Utd discussing shock Anthony Gordon deal

According to Ben Jacobs, who was speaking with The United Stand, Man United are now discussing a deal to sign Anthony Gordon behind the scenes and Newcastle United could grant a big-money departure if they miss out on Champions League football this season.

The England international has been in fine form as of late, scoring four goals in Newcastle's 6-1 thumping of Qarabag on Wednesday night, and those in Tyneside know just how talented he is.

Full of praise, Alan Shearer dubbed Gordon "brilliant" in 2024 and the winger has only improved ever since. In the absence of Alexander Isak this season following his record move to Liverpool, the former Everton man has stepped up to become the Magpies' leading talisman.
