Nottingham Forest is aiming to have a final decision on its latest plans to expand the City Ground in May ahead of work potentially starting in months.

The club has previously said it hoped approval for the major project would come in the spring, but recent documents have now confirmed it is aiming for Rushcliffe Borough Council to give the green light this May.

The aim is for the Reds to then start development work this summer, with the whole project set to be completed by 2033 in a bid to increase capacity to more than 50,000.

Documents submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council, which have since been removed from public view, included a full timetable on when Forest was hoping to reach key milestones in the expansion project and in terms of a final planning decision, the club is working towards May.

Nottingham Forest and Rushcliffe Borough Council have both been approached for further comment, but the scheduled meeting for Rushcliffe's planning committee in May falls on Thursday the 14th.

The new ground would become one of the tallest buildings in Nottingham and the initial focus of development would be on enabling works, mainly involving the demolition of 'redundant' buildings.

Neil Clarke, the leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council, previously said: "We obviously support Forest in terms of its importance for the area and its importance for the local economy, but obviously that support has to be in the context of making sure that any planning regulations are followed correctly and that normal due process is followed."
