Wayne Rooney has already given seal of approval for Everton's latest transfer target

Everton are being linked to Bristol City captain Jason Knight.

It has just emerged that David Moyes is closely monitoring Jason Knight ahead of the summer transfer window.

Knight was on Everton’s radar last summer after reports suggested Bristol would consider sanctioning his sale if a ‘good offer’ arrived following their play-off exit.

Would you rather sign a promising young striker overseas or a proven Premier League centre-forward? 🤔

Everton interested in Levante striker Etta Eyong.

Ultimately, nothing materialised, but clearly Moyes and his recruitment chiefs have continued to keep tabs on the 25-year-old midfielder.

With that said, we decided to revisit some old quotes on what Wayne Rooney said about the former Derby County star.

Wayne Rooney said Everton target Jason Knight is a ‘manager’s dream’

Moyes has always placed emphasis on recruiting good characters, not just good players, and Knight certainly falls into the category.

When Rooney was in charge of Derby, he managed a young Knight and labelled him a ‘manager’s dream’.

“He’s very vocal, which is very rare for a young player these days,” Rooney stated.

“He gives everything in training – tackling, running. Very similar to the way I was at his age. I was a player who believed at 20 that I should be captain of Manchester United.

“I told Alex Ferguson that in the Champions League against Roma away, and I know Jason Knight is exactly the same.

“He’s a manager’s dream. He gives everything. I said to him after the defeat to Rotherham: “Did you not play well because you had the armband on?” That was his one bad game.

Winter window now shut, what striker do you want signed in the summer for Everton? 💥

No excuses can be made when the window opens again 😫

“But I’ve never questioned age. He’s the one, not just for the younger players in the dressing room but the older lads, who others can look at. He gives you energy, desire, runs nonstop.

“I still want more from him quality-wise – in terms of crosses, shots, goals, assists – but in terms of what we are trying to build for this group of players he fully deserves it, whether he’s 19 or whether he’s 30.

“To get the recognition and experience shows how highly we think of him.”

Jason Knight could be an Idrissa Gana Gueye replacement

Idrissa Gana Gueye is out of contract in the summer, so it seems Everton are drawing up a list of potential targets.

Hayden Hackney has been linked to the Hill Dickinson Stadium over the last few days, and now Knight is emerging as a target.

Does Gueye need to be dropped? 🤔

Idrissa Gana Gueye.

Gueye turns 37 later this year, so perhaps Moyes and his chiefs are sceptical about offering him a new deal.

Gueye has been showing signs of slowing down recently, so perhaps it’s time to find his successor.
