Division 2 – The first meeting of the two clubs in Division 2 was on the 19th November 1921 and the game finished 1-0 to Crystal Palace.

Division 1 – The first meeting of the two clubs in Division 1 was on the 22nd November 1969 and the game finished 2-1 to Crystal Palace.

Setting the scene

Wolves are looking to boosting their playoff chances to extend their season and Crystal Palace looking to end their winless run at home.

First Half

The game starts with both teams being very cautiously with not much happening in terms of chances or shots on goal.

Crystal Palace dominate the first half with possession but there finishing in the final third was lacking the creativity to trouble the Wolves goalkeeper.

There were more bookings than action in the half of football for fouls and dissent but neither side with the crucial opening goal of the game.

Half Time: Crystal Palace 0 Wolves 0

Second Half

Both teams made no immediate changes to sides where Crystal Palace were struggling to break down the Wolves defence which was holding firm.

Crystal Palace brought on fresh legs to try something new in their gameplay to see if it can unlock a way to goal.

Both sides still struggling to find a way to goal, but Wolves are now starting to up the tempo of the game.

With 14 minutes to go to the end of the game Wolves managed to get the breakthrough in the game when Gray curls a shot from 18 yards out to the top corner of the net with the goalkeeper beaten.

Not happy with the scoreline Wolves sent on players to try and get another goal in the game and it also had to do another one due to the injury of the goalkeeper.

Near the end of the 90 minutes of the game plus injury time Wolves did get the second goal they were after when Kyle scored after coming on as a substitute from 25 yards out silenced the home side to complete the win.

Palace had a shot extremely late on in the game deep into injury time when Fletcher had a shot from distance which missed to the left of the goal.

Conclusion

Crystal Palace extended their losing streak at home with another mediocre performance from the side and Wolves move into playoff contention.

Setting the scene

Wolves looking for their 9th away victory of the season on the road and Crystal Palace looking for a win to climb further up the table keeping them in playoff contention.

First Half

Wolves start the game brightly out of the two sides with Kennedy narrowly shooting wide of the goal from 10 yards out.

From a throw in by Muscat after creating space Sturridge unleashed a 25-yard shot into the top corner of the net for his 12th goal of the season from 15 games to put Wolves into a well-deserved lead of the game after a positive start.

Crystal Palace responds after going behind in the game with some pressure of their own with Hopkin & Freedman taking aim at the Wolves goal, but Oakes keeps them out with fine saves in the midway part of the first half.

With Crystal Palace getting close to the Wolves goal Rodger’s gets an effort close blocked and Hopkin shot saved by Oakes with a reflex shot.

Akinbiyi the ex-Wolves player who was making his debut for the club almost equalised for the home side after a deflected shot by Freedman.

Morrison misses another chance before the half time whistle after a goalmouth scramble.

Half Time: Crystal Palace 0 Wolves 1

Second Half

Second half starts with Wolves in control of the game with Kennedys pace causing issues to the Crystal Palace side on the left.

Then Crystal Palace have another attempt by Akinbiyi who finds space on the right-hand side under hits a cross shot making it easy for Oakes to save.

Then Akinbiyi does it again from an unmarked position from a Morrison cross on the right-hand side heads narrowly wide of the goal.

But then Wolves against the run of play grab the second goal they deserved when Newton smashes in from close range after a cross from Blake to double the lead.

After this second goal by Wolves the challenge by Crystal Palace fades away with no further chances from the home side and Wolves hold on for the win.

Conclusion

Wolves victory puts them level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table and leaves Crystal Palace still in 6th place holding the last place of the playoffs.
