Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from TuttoSport on Manchester United’s interest in Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu.
The Turin newspaper were certain about the Red Devils’ presence at the San Siro for Juve’s big game against Inter Milan. Scouts were expected to keep a close eye on the Frenchman, who has been key for the Bianconeri under Luciano Spalletti.
The tie didn’t go too well for Kalulu, as he became the centre of controversy. He was sent off in the first-half, with Alessandro Bastoni’s dive seeing him pick up a second yellow card.
The sending off changed the game, as Inter ran out 3-2 winners. This doesn’t seem to have impacted Manchester United too much but other developments certainly have.
Manchester United unlikely to get Kalulu
Today’s TuttoSport takes a further look at the France international, who featured in Juve’s 5-2 loss to Galatasaray on Tuesday.
They are confident that despite Manchester United’s scouting mission, he is set to stay in Turin. It is clarified that the defender played well against Inter, despite the sending off.
In fact, Juve see Kalulu as ‘unsellable’ and are working to hand him a new contract. The foundations of the deal have been laid, with the 25-year-old likely to stay at the club until 2030.
His current contract runs in 2029, which could’ve been the reason behind Manchester United’s interest. But as things stand, the Red Devils’ name has probably been used in talks over the renewal.
Utility player can add value
Since his time at AC Milan, Kalulu has always been a reliable and versatile defender. Even at Juventus, he has played at centre-back, right and at wing-back and has done a very good job everywhere.
Besides, he can operate equally well in a back four and a back three.
This suggests that he can be an important player at any top club in Europe. There is no surprise about Manchester United’s interest but the chances may not be high.
