A look at the pundit predictions for West Ham’s Premier League clash with AFC Bournemouth.
West Ham are now putting the final touches on their preparations for Saturday’s clash with AFC Bournemouth at the London Stadium. The Hammers have been in strong form over recent weeks, making the relegation battle into a genuine battle, with only three points now separating them from the dotted line and safety.
Consistent form is a must if the Hammers are to beat the drop, though, and now begins a tough run of fixtures, starting with AFC Bournemouth, who are battling for European football and in the midst of a very good season. This is going to be a big test for West Ham, but how do the pundits think they will do? We have taken a look at what BBC Sport’s Chris Sutton and SportsKeeda’s Paul Merson have had to say.
Paul Merson
“This is a cup final. Bournemouth have hit some good form in recent weeks. After a real bad run, they have now turned things around and become dangerous again! When you look at the next few games for West Ham, this is a must-win fixture. West Ham need at least four points from their next three games to avoid relegation. How can they do it? I don't know!
“Obviously, there are more chances of them doing it, if they win this game. If they don't win and other teams get three points, they are in danger. West Ham face Wolves in April and if they don't win this game, they could be relegated by the time that fixture comes along.
“I feel West Ham are playing well enough and I'm backing them to secure a crucial win in this game. Prediction: West Ham United 2-1 Bournemouth.”
Chris Sutton
“West Ham are still in the bottom three but they have shown they are up for the fight in the past few weeks. Yes, they conceded a late equaliser against Manchester United in their last league game, but they keep on picking up points and that must have given them belief they can stay up.
“Bournemouth are on a good run now too, with three wins in their past four league games but, along with Brighton, they are the Premier League's draw specialists this season - both have had 10 so far. It finished 2-2 when these two sides met on the south coast in November and I can see the points being shared this time too. Prediction: 1-1.”
