West Ham are currently in a relegation battle in the Premier League as they eye survival
West Ham are ‘interested’ in a move for Juventus defender Federico Gatti this summer, according to Italian news outlet TuttoSport. The report adds that his price tag is around the £17.5million mark. Nottingham Forest and Lyon are also said to be keen on a swoop.
The Hammers are currently embroiled in a relegation battle in the Premier League. They are inside the bottom three along with Wolves and Burnley. The London outfit are three points from safety with 12 fixtures left to play.
West Ham keen on Juventus defender Federico Gatti
West Ham could see Gatti as someone to boost their defensive department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth at the back. However, it is hard for them to plan their recruitment with it yet to be known what league they are going to be in next term.
Gatti, 27, is under contract at Juventus until June 2030. He has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season for the Serie A giants, 12 of which have come in the league, and he has chipped in with two goals from the back. His long-term future in Turin is up in the air right now though amid attention from elsewhere.
The Italy international, who has six caps to his name, was snapped up by Juve back in 2022. He has played 127 matches for them altogether to date and has found the net on nine occasions. Prior to his switch, he had spells with the likes of Verbania, Pro Patria and Frosinone.
What now for West Ham in Premier League relegation fight?
West Ham are back in action this weekend. They face a home clash against AFC Bournemouth at the London Stadium. The Hammers won 1-0 against Burton Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup last time out.
Speaking after their victory over the Brewers, boss Nuno Espirito Santo said: "We knew it would be tough. We were able to contain them in the aspect of set-pieces and throw-ins. We did that in the first half and then in the second half, we came on strong with chances. Then (Crysencio) Summerville gave us a hand. He is in a good moment, he is helping out the team. This is what we expect from them. This is a magical competition. It is unique. We have a lot of respect. Today we came through, the draw is Monday. We go day by day."
