West Ham will get one of their injured players back in the coming weeks.
One long-term West Ham absentee is hoping to play some sort of role before the end of the season. The Iron are locked in a relegation battle heading into the last quarter of the season, currently three points from safety and in good form.
There are some tougher games from here on out, but the feeling is good around West Ham, and they will be hoping to ride the momentum into the upcoming games to leapfrog Nottingham Forest.
West Ham will be without Pablo Felipe for the upcoming games, with the forward having picked up a calf injury. In better news, it looks as though goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski will be returning in the coming weeks, and while he is not likely to play even when he is fit, he is a big voice and a good leader in the dressing room at a critical time.
Fabianski has been out for much of the season with a lower back injury, picking up the injury in September and having to settle for just one run out in the cup so far. “It was difficult to predict exactly how long the recovery would take,” Fabianski said, opening up on the injury to WP SportoweFakty.
“This was the first time I’d had an injury like this. It happened in training. Not even after a intervention, a jump, a fall, or a run. I made a turn, a dynamic change of direction, and one of my discs popped, which started pressing on a nerve in my leg, quite severely. I had to wait for my quadriceps to respond appropriately.
“After undergoing a series of tests, including an MRI, I saw that my spine was indeed showing the wear and tear of all those seasons. But I don’t regret it.”
Providing an update on his current state, Fabianski added: “For now, I’m training at 80-90%. I still need to strengthen my quadriceps on my right leg. I’ve returned to training with the other goalkeepers, almost at full strength, and I’m slowly rejoining the whole team. There are still areas where I feel like I’m lagging behind, especially in the weight room.”
The Iron will be hoping they can lean on Fabianski’s experience in the coming weeks, even if the goalkeeper is only likely to play a supplementary role when it comes to action on the pitch.
