Tyler Onyango said he is determined to fight his way back to fitness after the versatile Everton player suffered a season-ending injury. The 22-year-old will require surgery to a serious hamstring issue suffered with his loan club, Stockport County, in their defeat to Bradford City on Tuesday.
County boss Dave Challinor has since confirmed Onyango is not expected to recover in time to play again during the League One campaign .Onyango has made 23 appearances across two seasons on loan at Edgeley Park.
Many of his 13 displays this year were at right wing back, a position he adopted at times for David Moyes during the Everton first team’s pre-season tour of the USA.

He started the season in the Everton matchday squad before a deadline day return to Stockport.
Persistent injury problems have prevented him from a sustained run of games, however, and Onyango was replaced by fellow Everton loanee Roman Dixon when he went off in midweek.
Stockport said in a statement: “We wish Tyler all the best and will continue to offer our support throughout his recovery. We thank him for his efforts during his time as a Stockport County player.”
For Onyango, who joined Everton at the age of eight and has made five substitute appearances for the first team since his debut in the FA Cup against Sheffield Wednesday in January 2021, the injury comes with him in the final six months of his current Everton contract.
Posting on social media, he vowed to come back from his latest setback, writing: “Incredibly hard to accept. Been a tough few seasons dealing with setback after setback but I’m determined to overcome this difficult period.”
