Opinion: Everton could land major upgrade on David Moyes after Fabrizio Romano's update…

David Moyes has stabilised the ship at Everton, but a manager like Oliver Glasner is exactly what the Toffees need to take the club forward to the European spots.

Although Moyes still has just over a year remaining on his contract at Everton, it would be wise for the club to start considering their options for the future.

After all, the 62-year-old manager admitted he won’t ‘be doing it for that long’ having returned to the club after Sean Dyche’s sacking.

Under Moyes, Everton remain in the hunt for European qualification this season, with an open Premier League keeping their dreams alive.

The Everton boss has, however, struggled to find any form at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium which is really costing the Blues valuable points.

Is David Moyes doing enough at Everton to earn himself a new contract? 🫣

If not, who would you like to see replace him? 😬

Glasner is a manager who is set to become available this summer, or even potentially earlier, and his philosophy could be exactly what The Friedkin Group need to progress Everton.

Oliver Glasner would transform Everton’s full-backs

Moyes has admitted he’s wanted a new right-back for 12 months, with his current options not providing enough of an attacking threat.

The same could be said on the other side of the defence as Vitalii Mykolenko has returned just four assists in 147 Everton games.

Moyes has demanded more from his full-backs, but he has been unable to coach them into providing an attacking outlet.

Glasner has already demonstrated at Crystal Palace that his philosophy of using wing-backs has had a hugely positive effect at Selhurst Park.

Daniel Munoz is the key example of this, with the Palace right-wing-back having provided a lot in an attacking sense under Glasner.

This would require the Friedkins to put their money where their mouth is over the summer as Everton do not have any players capable of playing in the wing-back roles.

Glasner defied the odds to end Crystal Palace’s trophy drought

Qualifying for Europe is one thing, but doing it through winning the FA Cup killed two birds with one stone for Crystal Palace.

Everton also find themselves stuck in a trophy drought of their own, which has not even come close to being ended this season under Moyes.

Glasner’s time at Selhurst Park could even come to an end sooner than the summer, with Fabrizio Romano sharing talks over his immediate future.

The Austrian appears checked out of his spell in south London, which could present Everton’s board with some decisions to make.

Jack Grealish could flourish under Glasner

Playing with wing-backs means Glasner typically operates with a system including two number tens playing in behind the striker.

Grealish returned two goals and six assists for Everton in the Premier League before his injury.

However, Moyes was asking for more goals from Grealish just a matter of weeks before his season came to an end.

Under Glasner, Grealish could be provided a role that is more suited to his strengths by playing through the middle.

You only have to look at Ismaila Sarr, who has blossomed under Glanser over the last two seasons.

The Senegal international has turned into a real goal threat for the Eagles in the Premier League.

Of course, Everton require further negotiations with Man City to buy Grealish, but Glasner’s system could bring the best out of the 30-year-old.

Oliver Glasner would demand a new striker for Everton

Thierno Barry’s recent run of form appears to have come to an end, with no goals in his last three Premier League games.

Everton News understood that Everton were keen on signing another striker in the winter window, but the right opportunity seemingly did not present itself.

The current Palace manager would demand a striker who would be able to combine with the likes of Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye around him.

Neither Barry nor Beto have been able to show that ability this season, with Everton struggling to hold the ball up when in transition.

Glasner was able to get the best out of Jean-Philippe Mateta for a large part of his time at Selhurst Park.

Although Barry remains a work in progress, neither have shown the levels which Mateta has in the Premier League.

Everton would be foolish not to hold a David Moyes succession plan

Why wouldn’t a top level football club have a succession plan already in place for their manager, with one-year left on his deal?

Bringing Moyes back to Everton was the obvious choice for the Friedkins and offered them a quick win with the fans.

However, the 62-year-old’s future on Merseyside is still contractually secure for another year, which leaves the owners with plenty of time to consider their options.

Although Moyes has done well to get Everton up to eighth position, there may be some who feel a better manager would actually have the Blues closer to the Champions League spots given some of the points dropped this season.
