Gunners trio called up for Asian Cup

Steph Catley, Kyra Cooney-Cross and Caitlin Foord have all been named in the Australia squad for the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

The players will be away from February 24, following our Adobe Women’s FA Cup match against Bristol City. Depending on how deep Australia go in the competition, they could be away until March 21, meaning they’d miss our matches with London City Lionesses and West Ham United.

The Matildas will take on Philippines in their first group game on home soil at 9am UK time on Sunday, March 1, before facing Iran at 9am on Thursday, March 5, followed by South Korea at 9am on Sunday, March 8.

Australia have won this competition once in 2010, while China are the record title-holders with nine wins, most recently in 2022.

Teams need to finish in the top two of their group to advance to the knockout stages, but the two best third-placed teams will also go through.
