David Moyes shares fresh timeline on when he expects Tyler Dibling to shine for Everton

David Moyes has admitted Tyler Dibling is likely going to need the pre-season to get himself ready to become a regular.

Since making the £40m move to Everton from Southampton over the summer, Dibling has made just four Premier League starts.

There has been an apparent lack of trust from Moyes in selecting the youngster who turned 20 years old earlier in the week.

Moyes has already urged Dibling to show more at Everton following his quiet start to life on Merseyside.

Some may have seen the 62-year-old’s words as slightly harsh, but Moyes has now refined his thoughts on the winger.

It may not be what most fans wanted from a big-money signing, but the Everton boss feels the pre-season will be huge for Dibling to develop at the club.

David Moyes expects Tyler Dibling to improve at Everton over pre-season

Everton remain confident in Dibling’s eventual progression at Finch Farm, but it is certainly proving to be a gradual process.

“I think we have a really talented player on our hands. We need him to develop and get used to us a little bit,” said Moyes.

“He will probably need some time, even looking towards the start of next season. Pre-season friendlies and all those things will help him get more established than when we first brought him in.

“But look, he is beginning to learn a lot more about us. He will get game time, I am sure, between now and the end of the season.”

Everton CEO Angus Kinnear has praised Dibling’s work rate at Finch Farm, with a lack of minutes being provided in front of the fans.

It must be noted that Dibling did arrive at the Hill Dickinson Stadium once the season was already underway.

Dibling may end up wasting a full season at Everton

With no dramatic change to the amount of game time being handed to Dibling, the 2025/26 campaign will have to go down as a huge waste for the youngster.

Albeit with a woeful Southampton side, Dibling made 33 Premier League appearances last season and played over 1800 minutes.

This season, Dibling has not even racked up 350 minutes of Premier League action.

“He’s a quiet boy as you can see,” Moyes added when he found out about Dibling celebrating his birthday without the manager knowing.

A potential loan deal may have proved to be a smart option for the 20-year-old over the winter, but Everton were unable to gamble on that with Jack Grealish suffering a big injury.
