Everton face Manchester United at Hill Dickinson Stadium in the Premier League.
David Moyes heaped praised on the ‘brilliant’ job that Michael Carrick has done at Manchester United so far.
The Toffees host the Red Devils on Monday in the Premier League. United are unbeaten since Carrick took over the Old Trafford reins from Ruben Amorim, winning four games and drawing one, and they have moved up to fourth in the table.
Carrick played under Moyes when he was United manager during the 2013-14 season. The former midfielder had a glittering career with the Red Devils.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Moyes said: “There haven’t been any player changes. It is roughly the same players are what Ruben had when he was in chagrge. Michael has come in and done a brilliant job, I really. He’s freshened up the players and freshened up the supporters and they’re getting some victories.
“He was a really good professional and I was more impressed with the work he did at Middlesbrough. His teams played good stuff and I thought he done very well. He’s gone into the job, looks like he’s done it in a calm manner and gone about the job very well.
“I spoke to Michael in the summer about a couple of things. It was just really about a player and different things, nothing else.”
Everton earned an excellent 1-0 win when they faced United at Old Trafford earlier this season. The Toffees lost captain Seamus Coleman early due to injury before Idrissa Gana Gueye was given a red card for violent conduct for raising his hand to team-mate Michael Keane.
On that victory, Moyes reflected: “It seems a long time ago but it was a hugely important three points because you have to pick up wins when you can. It didn’t seem likely on the night when we went down to 10 men but we got a really good goal from Kiernan [Dewsbury-Hall] and did enough to hang on to it. It was a really important three points and these three points are important again coming up.”
Everton will return to action for the first time in 13 days after a 2-1 loss to AFC Bournemouth. The Blues are eighth in the table as they pursue European qualification in the final 12 games of the season.
