Former Leeds United managerial target makes honest Elland Road admission: ‘Whenever you start…

Ange Postecoglou

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has not had an easy ride since the season started. The Whites have had a campaign with multiple ups and downs.

At this point of the season, the Whites have positioned themselves well as one of the teams who could survive relegation. Leeds had a mixed start to the season, before having a blip in the middle of the campaign. Farke has overseen the team to turn things around towards the end of the year, and now they have a solid chance of making another season in the top flight.

Postecoglou recently spoke on his connection to Leeds on the Stick to Football podcast:

“Whenever you start talking that way, people say ‘the proper way to play football’. There’s no right or wrong way,” Postecoglou said.

“But I do love the joy of goals and attacking football, because that’s my father’s influence.

“In the 70s, he’d get me up and we’d watch Liverpool and he loved Leeds, because they had Eddie Gray and Peter Lorimer.

“He loved Johan Cruyff, the Dutch side in the ’74 World Cup, all those things had an influence on me.”

49ers made the right choice to stick with Daniel Farke

One of the best decisions the 49ers made this season was not to sack Daniel Farke during the bad run of form. They were patient and the Leeds boss eventually managed to turn things around. As a team battling relegation, pulling the trigger on a manager near the end of the season only makes the pressure worse. Unless they settle in and adapt quickly, their fight for survival could end badly. By sticking with Farke, Leeds have ensured they have stability throughout the season and he could pay that back in a big way by keeping them up.
