Crystal Palace had been linked with talks with a former Premier League manager prior to the Oliver Glasner revelations today.

Crystal Palace have been rocked by the news that Oliver Glasner could be dismissed from his position before the end of the season after a poor run of results in South London.

The BBC reports that Crystal Palace are ‘considering’ the manager’s position after support from the Eagles fanbase appeared to turn against the Austrian during the 1-1 draw with Zrinjski Mostar on Thursday night.

After winning the FA Cup and Community Shield last year, it seemed as if Crystal Palace would be desperate to extend Glasner’s contract past the end of this season. The boss then confirmed that he would not sign an extension but was set to see out his current deal.

Now, it appears that Glasner could be given his marching orders following one win from their last 15 games. The Crystal Palace boss did little to play down rumours on Friday.

When asked if he would be in charge until the end of the season, Glasner said: “I always said, and this wasn't the first press conference where I could just repeat myself. As I said, eventually you always depend on your players, and they will get all the support like always, and then we will see.

"In football, it's easy. As a manager, you will stay or be allowed to stay when the results are OK. Football is all about this and the last months, the results were not good. The performances were not consistently good and that's it."

Crystal Palace carrying out ‘due diligence’ on ex Tottenham Hotspur manager

The Friday bombshell comes less than a week after TEAMtalk claimed that Crystal Palace were ‘actively assessing’ appointing former Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford manager Thomas Frank as the successor to Glasner.

The Dane was sacked by Spurs earlier this month but remains well respected in the top flight thanks to his work at Brentford, despite a tricky spell at Spurs. Fulham and Bournemouth are also said to be admirers of Frank and each club is ‘carrying out its due diligence’ in the article, published last weekend.

Marco Silva and Andoni Iraola are both out of contract at Craven Cottage and the Vitality Stadium at the end of the season. Crystal Palace could potentially steal a lead by sacking Glasner now and looking to appoint Frank before their Premier League rivals are left managerless.
