Leeds United fans will be raging as Elland Road flop tipped for blockbuster Premier League move

Weston McKennie

The 2022/23 season for Leeds United was a very interesting one for fans. The club parted ways with Marcelo Bielsa the season before and hired Jesse Marsch.

The former Red Bull coach eventually lead the club to safety and earned a full season in charge. That summer, he was given a huge war chest to spend to improve the squad. He spent on getting many Red Bull products to Elland Road including Tyler Adams, Brenden Aaronson and Weston McKennie. Fans were not really convinced about these players before they even kicked a ball.

Three years later, and only two of these signings are still under contract at the club – Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober, with the rest having left the team.

Weston McKennie tipped for Premier League return

A lot of these signings played poorly in their first season in England, with many struggling to make an impact. Brenden Aaronson was labelled a flop with his huge transfer tag, and players like Weston McKennie and Rasmus Kristensen found themselves on the bench halfway through the season.

McKennie is now back in Italy with Juventus, where he seems to have rediscovered his form. His contract is up with the Italian side this summer, and former US National team star Tab Ramos has tipped him to move back to the Premier League:

“I have to tell you, Weston McKennie is a player that can play anywhere – in any position on the field.” he said to GOAL.

“Would I like to see him go to the EPL? Juventus is another one of those clubs – you are talking about a great club all over the world.

“I really think that Weston McKennie can make any team better,” Two-time MLS All-Star Ramos continued.

“I would personally like to see him back in the EPL playing for a club that is fighting for titles.”

Fans will be laughing after midfielder’s last stint

Regardless of what he has done with his Juventus career, Weston McKennie will always be remembered as a flop in Leeds United colours. He was poor when he played, looked out of shape and could barely impact games. That summer saw some of the worst recruitment under the 49ers at the club since they took over. Luckily, changes have been made behind the scenes and the team are much better at signings players – now the club can attract players from top leagues across Europe.
